In previous bus driver studies, however, the role of job resources in mitigating driver burnout (or emotional exhaustion) has been neglected.

In this study, we focus on two kinds of job resources, i.e., supervisor support and organizational support, and explore their effects on burnout (emotional exhaustion) to offer a more comprehensive understanding of bus drivers’ job strain and associated outcomes. Previous studies provide evidence that burnout is associated with negative perceived well-being, including negative health outcomes and organizational outcomes.

Drivers’ negative health outcomes attributed to burnout include poor physical and mental health such as anxiety, depression, gastrointestinal diseases, muscle tension, cardiovascular diseases, obesity, hypertension, chronic fatigue, and poor job performance,
