Zen and The Art of Buying a Scooter

So we bought a scooter. That's right, we bit the bullet and finally settled on a second set of wheels. Think of it as a sidecar for Maude. Truth be told, we've been thinking about this for a while, and after months of battling over mountain bikes, road bikes, a smart car or a scooter, we finally made a decision. Actually, if it weren't for one heck of a deal after a random morning of driving around southern Illinois, we'd probably still be at a part-time transportation crossroads.

We struggled for a while in deciding first, whether or not we even needed a second form of transportion. Could we have driven Maude around as we have this past year and manage? Of course. Did we want to keep putting miles on our small RV when we could just hop on a bike or scooter and be off? No way. Driving Maude through cities is not really enjoyable. In fact, finding a parking spot, paying for parking, taking tight turns and bumpy roads, can be f$@&ing miserable. There were times where I felt anxiety having to take Maude into the heart of a city and cross my fingers that everything went smoothly. This is ultimately why we chose to get a scooter.

Deep down, Vanessa and I felt we weren't doing the type of exploring that we should. We passed on opportunities to see things simple because driving a 24ft monster and finding parking seemed daunting to say the least. Even grabbing a few things at the grocery store required us to take our entire house with us. We knew that if we had bikes, or a scooter, we'd be able to explore and discover, and ultimately share and write about so much more.

It it wasn't until we were driving away from Oaktown, Indiana that we stumbled upon Sky Thunder, which was lined with recreational vehicles galore. We saw a few scooters and decided, hey, why not? So we turned Maude around and took a look. Turns out, we found exactly what we needed at a price that was beyond fair. They even threw in a hefty duty hitch and within an hour we were strapped up and ready to go.

Overall it was a very easy transaction, and we're absolutely thrilled. The title will arrive in a few days, and then we can get registration going. We hope to take this puppy for a spin within the next week, along with many, many more adventures to come.
